Mudras and Bipolar Mood Swing Management
One group of yoga postures is particularly helpful in managing bipolar mood swings.
They are useful not only for their potency, but also for their ease: You can easily do them even if you are not flexible, strong, or if you can’t get up and down.
Mudras, or “seals,” are hand gestures (most often) that, according to Georg Feuerstein (a preeminent yoga scholar) in the Yoga Tradition, “are especially potent in altering one’s mood because they have a more intense effect on the body’s endocrine system.”1
The endocrine system is a network in your body of ductless glands that regulates many bodily functions through the release of hormones.
Mudras affect moods by controlling energy in the body. You’ll learn more about them in the forthcoming release of Yoga for Bipolar.
